Limuru baby dies after ‘taking two doses of polio vaccine’

A two-week-old baby girl died on Monday night after a double polio vaccine in the nationwide drive.

On Tuesday, grief descended on Ngarariga village in Limuru constituency, Kiambu, over Sarah Wangechi’s death.

Her parents said she did not show any sign of illness before she took the vaccine.

Wangechi’s mother Ann Wanjiru said the baby took two doses of the vaccine two days apart.

Wangechi took the first dose on Friday at Limuru Nursing Home in Limuru town.

She took the second dose at her home on Monday.

Wanjiru said she asked the community health workers why the baby needed another dose two days after the first one.

“I told the health workers my child had taken the polio vaccine on Friday but they said there was no problem with her taking another dose,” Wanjiru said.
