Dr. Oz Warns About Mercury in Flu Shots
Dr. Oz spent considerable time covering the issue of thimerosal being used as a preservative in the annual flu vaccine. Thimerosal contains mercury, a well-known neuro-toxin. Dr. Oz interviewed Dr. Mark Hyman and former U.S. Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on his show to discuss mercury in vaccines.
It should be noted that Dr. Oz is not anti-vaccine, and he apparently required both of his guests to state that they too believe in vaccines in order to be on the show. Dr. Oz would want everyone to get the flu shot from batches where mercury is not added.
Flu vaccine contains 25,000 times more mercury than is legally allowed in drinking water
“Thimerosal, a mercury derivative, is added as a preservative. Each 0.5-mL dose contains 50 mcg [micrograms] thimerosal ([less than] 25 mcg mercury). Each 0.5-mL dose may also contain residual amounts of ovalbumin ([less than or equal to] 0.3 mcg), formaldehyde ([less than or equal to] 25 mcg), and sodium deoxycholate ([less than] 50 mcg) from the manufacturing process.”
CDC: Thimerosal in Flu Vaccine
Thimerosal is an ethyl mercury-based preservative used in vials that contain more than one dose of a vaccine (multi-dose vials) to prevent germs, bacteria and/or fungi from contaminating the vaccine.
Do flu vaccines contain thimerosal?
Flu vaccines in multi-dose vials contain thimerosal to safeguard against contamination of the vial. Most single-dose vials and pre-filled syringes of flu shot and the nasal spray flu vaccine do not contain a preservative because they are intended to be only used once.
A list of available flu vaccines and their thimerosal content is available.
