NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) –
President Barack Obama said Friday he is weighing a range of options for countering the violent Islamic insurgency in Iraq, but he warned government leaders in Baghdad the U.S. will not take military action unless they move to address deep political troubles.
The President did not specify what options he was considering, but he ruled out sending American troops back into combat in Iraq.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said Saturday that the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush will be repositioned to provide President Obama “additional flexibility” in Iraq.
An Al Qaeda splinter group, known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, has been on the move. The group has been conducting an offensive in the western region of the country and threatens stability in Baghdad.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel ordered the carrier to be moved Saturday from the North Arabian Sea to the Arabian Gulf. The ship is expected to arrive in the area Saturday evening. The aircraft carrier will be accompanied by a guided-missile cruiser and a guided-missile destroyer, said ….
