Nissan Leaf driver goes to jail for ‘stealing’ 5 cents worth of electricity

Nissan Leaf driver goes to jail for ‘stealing’ 5 cents worth of electricity

It is illegal to plug your cell phone into an available outlet on public property? It is illegal to do so with an electric car? In Georgia it is, apparently.

Nissan Leaf driver Kaveh Kamooneh, of Dekalb, GA, went to watch his son play tennis at school last month and plugged his EV into an outlet on the outside of the school. A police officer saw him, but didn’t arrest him on the spot. Instead, the officer filed a police report and troopers went to Kamooneh’s house 11 days later, arresting him and putting him in the slammer for 15 hours. The total value of Kamooneh’s 20-minute refueling? Five cents, but the local Chamblee police Sergeant Ernesto Ford said the arrest was absolutely the right thing to do, telling local TV news station 11 Alive that, “he broke the law. He stole something that wasn’t his.” In his defense, Kamooneh said that he was at the school on a Saturday and there was no one to ask for permission to plug in his car. We’ve embedded two videos from 11 Alive below.

In 11 Alive‘s interview with Kamooneh we can see he has a good attitude about the whole incident, laughing at times. But ‘free’ public charging like this is an interesting question. It may not be legal, but is it really wrong? No one seems to have problems with people plugging their gadgets, so why is it wrong to plug in a car? We’d love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience in the comments. And it’s good to see that, while it’s not a scientific poll, at least 11 Alive readers are voting 93 percent to seven percent that the arrest was overkill.

Israel revises children’s arrest tactics, but violations continue – UNICEF

Israel revises children’s arrest tactics, but violations continue – UNICEF

Israel’s army is introducing reforms to how it arrests Palestinian children in the West Bank, the UN Children’s Fund said. The move comes amid international criticism after revelations of widespread mistreatment of detained Palestinian children.

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) said in a statement that  Israel was “taking steps” to address some of the problems  outlined in a report  released by the organization back in March. The report revealed  that the Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military in  the West Bank were “systematically” mistreated.

Seven months after the report was released reports of violations  are ongoing, reports UNICEF, despite the 38 recommendations  issued along with the report that would help to bring the  treatment of children in line with international standards.

But, UNICEF noted that Israel had moved forward on the issue and  is currently testing some of the newly reformed measures. The  first measure deals with Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) issuing  summons for children instead of making night arrests at home,   “which can be traumatic for children and their siblings,”   UNICEF said.

Police Arrest Veterans at NYC Memorial

Police Arrest Veterans at NYC Memorial

“This is a sign of betrayal”

Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com October 8, 2013

Police arrested numerous Vietnam veterans during a vigil at a war memorial in New York City last night after the protesters refused to adhere to a 10pm curfew.

The veterans had gathered at the Vietnam Memorial Plaza to protest the 12th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan by reading out the names of deceased US soldiers.

One video shows a man speaking about how veterans are committing suicide. “This is a sign of betrayal….it’s important you know that your government committed immense atrocities during the Vietnam war, we did it every day,” he states.

After the Park Service rejected the group’s application to hold a protest at the site, an all night vigil was planned. The group argued that its first amendment rights superseded the 10pm curfew.

Photographs show veterans being handcuffed and loaded into paddy wagons.

A live stream video recording of the event shows demonstrators chanting, “whose side are you on?” before police, after several verbal warnings, move in to make the arrests.

Forcibly Stripped, Held Naked | DUI Arrest From Hell [DISTURBING VIDEO]

“Startling video of a woman being forcibly strip searched by several male and female deputies following a DUI arrest has led to a lawsuit against the sheriff’s department, county and officers.

Video capturing 33-year-old Dana Holmes’ arrest in May shows her first being searched upright by a female officer in LaSalle County, Ill., before violently pulled to the ground and carted off to a jail cell.

Once inside the room, a surveillance camera showed her being held face down on the ground while her clothes — including her undergarments — are removed by the group of male officers and single female, according to her suit.”* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.
