Vaccine News – Associations of prenatal and early childhood mercury exposure with autistic behaviors at 5 years of age: The Mothers and Children’s Environmental Health (MOCEH) study

Science of The Total Environment – 2017
Highlights
•We explored the associations between blood mercury levels and autistic behaviors.
•This study involved an ongoing multi-center prospective birth cohort.
•Blood mercury levels were repeatedly measured from early pregnancy to 3 years.
•Autistic behaviors were assessed at 5 years with the Social Responsiveness Scale.
•Prenatal and early childhood mercury levels were associated with autistic behaviors.
Abstract
Background
Although mercury is an established neurotoxin, only few longitudinal studies have investigated the association between prenatal and early childhood mercury exposure and autistic behaviors.
Methods
We conducted a longitudinal cohort study using an ongoing prospective birth cohort initiated in 2006, wherein blood mercury levels were measured at early and late pregnancy; in cord blood; and at 2 and 3 years of age. We analyzed 458 mother-child pairs. Autistic behaviors were assessed using the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) at 5 years of age. Both continuous SRS T-scores and T-scores dichotomized by a score of ≥ 60 or < 60 were used as outcomes.
Results
The geometric mean of mercury concentrations in cord blood was 5.52 μg/L. In adjusted models, a doubling of blood mercury levels at late pregnancy (β = 1.84, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.39, 3.29), in cord blood (β = 2.24, 95% CI: 0.22, 4.27), and at 2 years (β = 2.12, 95% CI: 0.54, 3.70) and 3 years (β = 2.80, 95% CI: 0.89, 4.72) of age was positively associated with the SRS T-scores. When the SRS T-scores were dichotomized, we observed positive associations with mercury levels at late pregnancy (relative risk [RR] = 1.31, 95% CI: 1.08, 1.60) and in cord blood (RR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.63).
Conclusion
We found that blood mercury levels at late pregnancy and early childhood were associated with more autistic behaviors in children at 5 years of age. Further study on the long-term effects of mercury exposure is recommended.

Abstract
Exposure to organic forms of mercury has the theoretical capacity to generate a range of immune abnormalities coupled with chronic nitro-oxidative stress seen in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The paper discusses possible mechanisms explaining the neurotoxic effects of mercury and possible associations between mercury exposure and ASD subtypes. Environmental mercury is neurotoxic at doses well below the current reference levels considered to be safe, with evidence of neurotoxicity in children exposed to environmental sources including fish consumption and ethylmercury-containing vaccines. Possible neurotoxic mechanisms of mercury include direct effects on sulfhydryl groups, pericytes and cerebral endothelial cells, accumulation within astrocytes, microglial activation, induction of chronic oxidative stress, activation of immune-inflammatory pathways and impairment of mitochondrial functioning. (Epi-)genetic factors which may increase susceptibility to the toxic effects of mercury in ASD include the following: a greater propensity of males to the long-term neurotoxic effects of postnatal exposure and genetic polymorphisms in glutathione transferases and other glutathione-related genes and in selenoproteins. Furthermore, immune and inflammatory responses to immunisations with mercury-containing adjuvants are strongly influenced by polymorphisms in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region and by genes encoding effector proteins such as cytokines and pattern recognition receptors. Some epidemiological studies investigating a possible relationship between high environmental exposure to methylmercury and impaired neurodevelopment have reported a positive dose-dependent effect. Retrospective studies, on the other hand, reported no relationship between a range of ethylmercury-containing vaccines and chronic neuropathology or ASD. On the basis of these results, we would argue that more clinically relevant research is required to examine whether environmental mercury is associated with ASD or subtypes. Specific recommendations for future research are discussed.

Abstract
Environmental factors have been implicated in the etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD); however, the role of heavy metals has not been fully defined. This study investigated whether blood levels of mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and lead of children with ASD significantly differ from those of age- and sex-matched controls. One hundred eighty unrelated children with ASD and 184 healthy controls were recruited. Data showed that the children with ASD had significantly (p < 0.001) higher levels of mercury and arsenic and a lower level of cadmium. The levels of lead did not differ significantly between the groups. The results of this study are consistent with numerous previous studies, supporting an important role for heavy metal exposure, particularly mercury, in the etiology of ASD. It is desirable to continue future research into the relationship between ASD and heavy metal exposure

Dancer, 18, is paralysed from waist down after ‘having cervical cancer vaccine’
Chloe Brookes-Holder, 18, believes the vaccine led to her illness despite the World Health Organisation saying there is no credible evidence of a link between HPV and chronic illnesses
ByKara O’NeillShanti Das 11:51, 3 MAR 2017
A teenage dancer has been paralysed from the waist down and may never walk again after suffering from devastating chronic illnesses which she claims were caused by the HPV cervical cancer vaccine.
Chloe Brookes-Holder, 18, and her family believe that the jabs have left her with a range of chronic illnesses including weakened muscles, fatigue and bone pain.

Study – Chickenpox vaccination increases incidence of shingles in younger adults
August 12, 2015 at 3:22 AM
Vaccinating one-year-olds against chickenpox could temporarily nearly double the incidence of shingles in the wider population, but in younger adults than previously thought.
The effect occurs because vaccination reduces the likelihood of adults who experienced chickenpox as a child being re-exposed to the virus. Re-exposure boosts immunity to shingles, caused by the same virus, Varicella-zoster virus.
In a study to be published in the journal eLife, scientists from the Universities of Antwerp and Hasselt (Belgium) have predicted that the temporary effect of a rise in shingles cases dominates in 31 to 40-year-olds. This is younger than previously predicted and this age group is less at risk of developing the most serious shingles symptoms. Many countries have avoided introducing universal chickenpox vaccination in children because it was previously predicted that the reduction in chickenpox related disease would be outbalanced by the temporarily increase in shingles-related disease.
A new model developed by the scientists also confounds previous findings on the length of time re-exposure chickenpox boosts immunity to shingles. The effect was thought to last for up to 20 years, but results of the current modeling study show it only lasts for two. The new model is the first based on real immunological and virological data from individuals.
“We were surprised to find that re-exposure to chickenpox is beneficial for so few years and also that the most pronounced effect of vaccination on increasing cases of shingles is in younger adults,” says lead author Dr Benson Ogunjimi.
“Our findings should allay some fears about implementing childhood chickenpox vaccination,” he says.

The Connection Between Autism and Brain Inflammation
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) now affect as many as 1 in 45 children — and the numbers are rising. Considered a neurodevelopment disorder, autism is characterized by varying degrees of dysfunctional communication and social interactions, repetitive and stereotypic behaviors, as well as learning and sensory deficits. Researchers are scrambling to pinpoint the reason for this disturbing trend, but the disorder has proven to be incredibly complex and treatment options are limited.
A promising study published during the summer of 2016 in Translational Psychiatry may shed some much needed light on the root cause of the disorder — and how to address it.
Dr. Theoharides and his colleagues — in collaboration with Tufts University School of Medicine, Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and the Department of Child Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School — believe they may have uncovered a significant cause of the core symptoms of ASD. Dr. Theoharides is considered an expert in his field and is within the top five percent of most quoted authors in scientific papers.

Autism Rates in California Schools Jumped As Much as 17% Among Kindergartners Since Mandatory Vaccine Bill Was Signed
by Yelena Sukhoterina | August 24, 2016
Autism rates in the US have been rising since the 1980s. In 1985 autism prevalence was 1 in 2,500, ten years later it jumped to 1 in 500, and today it is an astonishing 1 in 68 children.
More and more researchers and doctors are raising red flags as they see more evidence that this epidemic is related not only to environmental, food, and water toxins, but specifically to those in vaccinations. In 1995, the immunization schedule for children had 19 vaccinations before the age of 16. In 2001, that number is now 28 before the age of 18.
Following the 2016 schedule, a child can receive up to 72 vaccinations if they have all the doses of the vaccines, all the boosters, and a double-dose of the annual flu shot done.
While the state of California has long been in favor of natural medicine and freedom to choose your own method of healing, all that changed in June 2015 when Governor Jerry Brown signed the controversial SB277 bill eliminating personal and religious exemptions for vaccines.
Could the increased rates be contributing even partly to a stunningly quick rise in autism rates?

Robert De Niro, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. offer $100K to anyone who can provide proof vaccines are safe
By Katie Scott    National Online Journalist, Smart Living & Entertainment  Global News
Robert De Niro joined Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 15 to hold a press conference about vaccine safety.
The pair are looking for proof that vaccines are safe and teamed up to offer $100,000 to anyone who can provide such information.
The actor participated in the panel, which showcased discredited claims surrounding vaccination, including the notion that they cause autism and that high levels of mercury in immunizations can make kids sick.
“On one hand, the government is telling pregnant women which mercury-laced fish to avoid so that they don’t harm their fetuses, and on the other, the CDC supports injecting mercury-containing vaccines into pregnant women, infants and children,” Kennedy said at the joint press conference Wednesday.

MEASLES VACCINATION RESULTS IN HORRIFIC RASHES AND ILLNESS ON CHILDREN
HUNDREDS of children between the ages of 1 to 14 have been admitted in hospitals across Lesotho after a nationwide vaccination for measles and rubella (MR) resulted in horrific skin rashes, fever and muscle pain.
The vaccinations were carried out in February under the authority of the Lesotho ministry of health headed by Dr Molotsi Monyamane, in association with World Health Organization and UNICEF.
At a press conference on Thursday last week Dr Monyamane didn’t fully acknowledge that the MR jabs which were administered in homes, schools and clinics were the main cause of ill effects on hundreds of children and the death of at least one child.
Instead the minister downplayed the effects of the vaccination by saying the children who have come out with rashes and other illnesses might be undernourished, hence their reaction to the vaccine.
‘We don’t have proof that the pictures posted on social media are truly for children who got such side effects from the vaccination,” Dr Monyamane said.
He added: “Do not bring us pictures, bring those children here we have a specialist here. Parents should bring documented evidence from health professionals that prove that the children`s illness is a result of the vaccine. Take your children to the health facilities; I do not know what is ailing the children. Let’s all investigate what is causing this outbreak. We can’t attribute every illness in the country to the vaccine.”
Dr Monyamane’s dismissive attitude has offended scores of parents some of who are considering legal action against him and the ministry of health.
One mother who didn’t want to be identified told Team Buntu Africa that her once perfectly healthy five-year old son has been sick since being vaccinated with MR.

Dirty Vaccines: Every Human Vaccine Tested Was Contaminated With Metals and Debris in New Study

Study – New Quality-Control Investigations on Vaccines Micro and Nanocontamination
Researchers examining 44 samples of 30 different vaccines found dangerous contaminants, including red blood cells in one vaccine and metal toxicants in every single sample tested – except in one animal vaccine.
Using extremely sensitive new technologies not used in vaccine manufacturing, Italian scientists reported they were “baffled” by their discoveries which included single particles and aggregates of organic debris including red cells of human or possibly animal origin and metals including lead, tungsten, gold, and chromium, that have been linked to autoimmune disease and leukemia.
In the study, published this week in the International Journal of Vaccines and Vaccination, the researchers led by Antoinetta Gatti, of the National Council of Research of Italy and the Scientific Director of Nanodiagnostics, say their results “show the presence of micro- and nano-sized particulate matter composed of inorganic elements in vaccine samples” not declared in the products’ ingredients lists.
Lead particles were found in the cervical cancer vaccines, Gardasil and Cevarix, for example, and in the seasonal flu vaccine Aggripal manufactured by Novartis as well as in the Meningetec vaccine meant to protect against meningitis C.
Samples of an infant vaccine called Infarix Hexa (against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis and haemophilus influenzae type B) manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline was found to contain stainless steel, tungsten and a gold-zinc aggregate.
Other metal contaminants included platinum, silver, bismuth, iron, and chromium. Chromium (alone or in alloy with iron and nickel) was identified in 25 of the human vaccines from Italy and France that were tested.
GSK’s Fluarix vaccine for children three years and older contained 11 metals and aggregates of metals. Similar aggregates to those identified in the vaccines have been shown to be prevalent in cases of leukemia, the researchers noted.

Whooping cough resurgence due to vaccinated people not knowing they’re infectious?
Date:
June 24, 2015
Source:
Santa Fe Institute
Summary:
The dramatic resurgence of whooping cough is due, in large part, to vaccinated people who are infectious but who do not display the symptoms, suggests a new study.
Whooping cough has made an astonishing comeback, with 2012 seeing nearly 50,000 infections in the U.S. (the most since 1955), and a death rate in infants three times that of the rest of the population. The dramatic resurgence has puzzled public health officials, who have pointed to the waning effectiveness of the current vaccine and growing anti-vaccine sentiment as the most likely culprits.
But that might not be the whole story, suggests a new study published in BMC Medicine by Santa Fe Institute Omidyar Fellows Ben Althouse and Sam Scarpino. Their research points to a different, but related, source of the outbreak — vaccinated people who are infectious but who do not display the symptoms of whooping cough, suggesting that the number of people transmitting without symptoms may be many times greater than those transmitting with symptoms.
In the 1950s, highly successful vaccines based on inactivated pertussis cells (the bacteria that causes whooping cough) drove infection rates in the U.S. below one case per 100,000 people. But adverse side effects of those vaccines led to the development and introduction in the 1990s of acellular pertussis vaccines, which use just a handful of the bacteria’s proteins and bypass most of the side effects. (Currently given to children as part of the Tdap vaccine.)
The problem is, the newer vaccines might not block transmission. A January 2014 study in PNAS by another research team demonstrated that giving baboons acellular pertussis vaccines prevented them from developing symptoms of whooping cough but failed to stop transmission.
Building on that result, Althouse and Scarpino used whopping cough case counts from the CDC, genomic data on the pertussis bacteria, and a detailed epidemiological model of whooping cough transmission to conclude that acellular vaccines may well have contributed to — even exacerbated — the recent pertussis outbreak by allowing infected individuals without symptoms to unknowingly spread pertussis multiple times in their lifetimes.
‘There could be millions of people out there with just a minor cough or no cough spreading this potentially fatal disease without knowing it,’ said Althouse. ‘The public health community should act now to better assess the true burden of pertussis infection.’

Pub Med Studies about the human papillomavirus vaccination

Orthostatic intolerance and postural tachycardia syndrome as suspected adverse effects of vaccination against human papilloma virus.
RESULTS:
35 women aged 23.3 ± 7.1 years participated. Twenty-five had a high level of physical activity before vaccination and irregular periods were reported by all patients not on treatment with oral contraception. Serum bilirubin was below the lower detection limit in 17 patients. Twenty-one of the referred patients fulfilled the criteria for a diagnosis of POTS (60%, 95%CI 43-77%). All patients had orthostatic intolerance, 94% nausea, 82% chronic headache, 82% fatigue, 77% cognitive dysfunction, 72% segmental dystonia, 68% neuropathic pain.
CONCLUSIONS:
In a population referred for symptoms of orthostatic intolerance and other symptoms consistent with autonomic dysfunction that began in close temporal association with a quadrivalent HPV vaccination, we identified a 60% prevalence of POTS. Further work is urgently needed to elucidate the potential for a causal link between the vaccine and circulatory abnormalities and to establish targeted treatment options for the affected patients.

Postural tachycardia syndrome following human papillomavirus vaccination.
RESULTS:
Three patients also had neurocardiogenic syncope, and three patients were diagnosed with possible small fiber neuropathy. Symptoms in all patients improved over 3 years with pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacological measures but residual symptoms persisted. Molecular mimicry with formation of cross-reacting autoantibodies to the potential targets of the autonomic ganglia, neurons, cardiac proteins or vascular receptors is considered as a possible pathogenesis of new onset POTS after immunization.
CONCLUSION:
Correct diagnosis of POTS and awareness that POTS may occur after vaccination in young women is essential for prompt and effective management of this condition.

Hypothesis: Human papillomavirus vaccination syndrome–small fiber neuropathy and dysautonomia could be its underlying pathogenesis.
However, seemingly inexplicit adverse reactions have been described after the injection of the newer vaccines vs. human papillomavirus (HPV). The symptoms more often reported are chronic pain with paresthesias, headaches, fatigue, and orthostatic intolerance. Adverse reactions appear to be more frequent after HPV vaccination when compared to other type of immunizations. Different isolated cases and small series have described the development of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and fibromyalgia after HPV vaccination. These are illnesses often difficult to diagnose that have overlapping clinical features. Sympathetic nervous system dysfunction seems to play a major role in the pathogenesis of these syndromes. Also, small fiber neuropathy has been recently recognized in CRPS, POTS, and fibromyalgia. This article forwards the hypothesis that small fiber neuropathy and dysautonomia could be the common underlying pathogenesis to the group of rare, but severe reactions that follow HPV vaccination. Clinicians should be aware of the possible association between HPV vaccination and the development of these difficult to diagnose painful dysautonomic syndromes.

HPV vaccination syndrome. A questionnaire-based study.
After a mean period of 4.2 ± 2.5 years post-vaccination, 93% of patients continue to have incapacitating symptoms and remain unable to attend school or work. In conclusion, a disabling syndrome of chronic neuropathic pain, fatigue, and autonomic dysfunction may appear after HPV vaccination.

“I believe with all my heart that the Gardasil vaccination did this to her,”
AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – An Aiken family says they found out the hard way that trying to prevent one illness caused several more. NewsChannel 6 spoke exclusively with the Wall family about how their daughter went from cancer prevention to sickness. https://www.gofundme.com/2c7mfm92
“I used to scare my mom because I sank to the bottom and just stared at her, ” said 12-year-old Georgia, who could swim before she could walk.
“I’d kick myself back up and take a breath and went back down,” she proudly exclaimed.
Now that she can walk. Her parents say getting up to do so is a challenge.
Carolyn Wall, Georgia’s mother described what’s going on with Georgia.
“Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. Basically, when she’s sitting down her heart rate is one thing and she doesn’t have enough blood volume or blood pressure to push the blood back up to the brain like it’s supposed to go,” she said.
POTS is a cardiovascular disorder that is a cluster of symptoms, a syndrome. Wall said her very active child never showed signs of before being vaccinated.
“I believe with all my heart that the Gardasil vaccination did this to her,” mom stated.
Gardasil, approved for use by the FDA in June of 2006, is a human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine the pharmaceutical company Merck describes as helping protect girls and boys against HPV related cervical, vaginal, penile and anal cancers. It’s typically given at age 11 or 12 through age 26, but it can be given as young as age 9. But when Georgia received her first shot it was bad.
“Georgia didn’t just lose color, she looked green. I watched my baby go boom and hit the ground,” said Wall, who added she even hit the ground too in shock.
Doctors told them fainting was normal after receiving the vaccine. We even found that it is listed as a symptom on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website, along with dizziness and many other symptoms Georgia has. But her mother said this vaccine robbed her daughter’s life, even at church.
“In front of 200 kids, the band is on stage, the kids are in front of the stage, she has a seizure,” she recalled along with the horror she felt.
Georgia’s mom even recorded a few cell phone videos of the bad days.
“Where does it feel frustrated at?” She asked.
“I don’t know!” Georgia responded.
Georgia takes medications to control the symptoms. Florinef is one of them and she said it makes her hallucinate.
“I feel nauseous and weak,” she explained after one dose during a cell phone taped moment.
Carolyn has pages of physician notes that point to Georgia’s POTS and the “frequent flares of fatigue” as one document describes. And there’s this one study published in a scholarly journal called Vaccine linking the HPV vaccine to POTS. >>>> http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25882168
“Sylvia, my daughter who is 20 now, is also her [Georgia’s] cousin. When she was 12 I took her to get the Gardasil vaccination and immediately as soon as she received the vaccination she had a seizure,” Vickie Daman said.
Hearing stories from a community of HPV vaccination mothers near and far keeps the Walls fighting. But then there’s faith.
“Hold her and pray and thank the good Lord she did wake up. But some mothers don’t have that privilege. Some of these little girls don’t wake up,” she cried.
Georgia is seeing a holistic doctor and they said she’s feeling a little better. But it’s the prayers they are depending on the most.
The Wall family is also depending on donations from the community as well as the decline of Georgia’s health forced Carolyn out of work temporarily and caused Georgia’s father to switch jobs. The family also had to change health care providers, which caused them to pay a deductible all over again. A Go Fund Me account has been set up to assist them with their financial needs. https://www.gofundme.com/2c7mfm92
