I just finished reading a paper by a company Called Helixworks that is in
the process of (nearly completed) producing synthetic DNA that attaches to
human, animal or plant DNA and allows for the storage of and retrieval of
digital information similar to the hard drive of a computer. This is
essentially turning the human body into an interface with an electronic
mediums allowing for (theoretically ) the human body to store an
individual’s personal information and serve as a unique identifier (think
security). This would in theory allow humans to conduct business in an
electronic format/medium over the internet through their altered DNA. This
also means that commerce conducted this way could be controlled worldwide
by a unifying body/community/government that has the power to severe a
person’s ability to interact on that network. So, essentially, this
altered DNA will act like the electronic key or signature that each person
needs to use to access a world wide network for communications and commerce
– think BItcoin – and once registered, this unique key could be controlled
in a vast amount of ways. This should start to sound a lot like the Book
of Revelation. You may already be aware of this but if not then please

Assessing the survival of transgenic plant DNA in the human gastrointestinal tract.

The inclusion of genetically modified (GM) plants in the human diet has raised concerns about the possible transfer of transgenes from GM plants to intestinal microflora and enterocytes. The persistence in the human gut of DNA from dietary GM plants is unknown. Here we study the survival of the transgene epsps from GM soya in the small intestine of human ileostomists (i.e., individuals in which the terminal ileum is resected and digesta are diverted from the body via a stoma to a colostomy bag). The amount of transgene that survived passage through the small bowel varied among individuals, with a maximum of 3.7% recovered at the stoma of one individual. The transgene did not survive passage through the intact gastrointestinal tract of human subjects fed GM soya. Three of seven ileostomists showed evidence of low-frequency gene transfer from GM soya to the microflora of the small bowel before their involvement in these experiments. As this low level of epsps in the intestinal microflora did not increase after consumption of the meal containing GM soya, we conclude that gene transfer did not occur during the feeding experiment.

Gov’t seeks approval for dumping Fukushima plant groundwater into sea

TOKYO, Feb. 3, Kyodo

The government on Monday sought approval of a nationwide fisheries federation to dump groundwater at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex into the sea on condition that the water’s contamination level is far below the legal limit.

During talks with the head of the National Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations, industry ministry officials explained that they plan to set “strict” operational procedures for the pump system to allay the concerns of fishermen who think the move could deal a blow to their business.

Groundwater will be pumped out before it gets mixed with highly radioactive water accumulating at the basement of reactor buildings, and will be directed to the adjacent Pacific Ocean.

Rice grown near crippled Fukushima nuclear plant served to govt officials

Rice from fields in the Fukushima prefecture, evacuated after the worst nuclear disaster in Japan, will be served to government officials for 9 days in a bid to demonstrate the safety of the country’s most-beloved crop, a local broadcaster reported.

The rice cultivated in several decontaminated fields in the Yamakiya District in Kawamata Town and Iitate Village, two areas designated as evacuation zones after the March 2011 nuclear catastrophe, will be served in a government office in Tokyo from Monday.

Over half a ton (540 kilograms) of rice will be part of a test to prove the effectiveness of the decontamination process. Officials from the Fukushima prefecture have given assurances that the rice contains no radioactive substances.

The rice balls tasted especially good after the great effort put into cultivating the crop, said Senior Vice Environment Minister Shinji Inoue on Monday. Parliamentary Vice Environment Minister Tomoko Ukishima also joined the tasting.

A farmer from Kawamata Town told NHK that he will continue to cultivate the rice now that he knows it tastes good. Because the zone was evacuated after the nuclear crisis, he said that he had traveled from his temporary home to the paddy fields to tend the crops.

Some 160,000 people escaped the vicinity of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant after an earthquake in March 2011 triggered a tsunami that hit Japan’s coast, damaging the plant’s three nuclear reactors. The catastrophe that hit Fukushima became the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl.

Several months after the accident at the power plant in November 2011, samples of rice grown in Onami town in Fukushima Prefecture showed radioactive contamination above the safety limit. The grain contained caesium – a radioactive isotope – that was measured at 630 becquerels per kilogram, while the government-set safety limit is 500 becquerels.

Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant begins risky fuel rod removal

he operating company at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan has begun the risky but crucial task of removing radioactive fuel rods from one of the four reactors.

It is seen as an important first step towards making the plant stable.

In a process due to take over a year, more than 1,500 tubes must be lifted out of a storage pool.

A spokesman for Tepco said they started lifting up a first fuel assembly with a crane at 15.18 local time, (06.18 GMT), on Monday afternoon.

A key question is whether the fuel rods were damaged during the disaster and may leak during removal.

Unit 4 of the plant was offline at the time of the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Its core did not melt down as the other three did, but hydrogen explosions have since weakened the structure.

The first stage will see 22 of the 4.5 metre long tubes removed over two days and placed in a common pool with a cooling system.

The casks must remain watertight during the operation and have no contact with air.

An American expert taken on by the operator, Lake Barrett, said he was confident Tepco would do a good job.

But several other engineers, both Japanese and foreign, have warned that any errors during the process could have grave consequences, such as sudden leaks of radioactive material.

Tepco’s boss, Naomi Hirose, said at the beginning of last week that “safety was the priority”.

Meanwhile reports in Japan say Tepco is looking to shed 1,000 jobs through voluntary redundancies.
