They would start off by saying that ‘everyone knows’ the earth to be round, and if pressed further, would become angry. In a way Shaw is right. I’ve heard a few military guys on your show talking about FE, one air force nav and a sub guy. I am a retired QMC(SW) 02/1981-05/2001 which is the navigation specialty. I have sailed the following; Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, Atlantic, N. Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Suez Canal, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf, Pacific Ocean, etc 43 different ports of call, five different surface ships. I spent 75% of my sea time on the bridges of aforesaid ships observing horizons, lighthouses, ships, aircraft, meteor showers, lunar eclipses, etc. for many thousands of hours. I have done celestial, radar, visual, and other electronic navigation techniques. John McGlone
