Some coal-based power plants have been closed, but India’s top court is considering implementing a lockdown – a first of its kind in the country – to stem pollution and not to control coronavirus infections.

Authorities in New Delhi are considering a first-of-its-kind lockdown to combat worsening air pollution.

Schools have already been closed indefinitely as severe smog choked people living in the Indian capital and neighbouring states on Wednesday.

The number of dangerous pollution particles in New Delhi’s air was measured at seven times the safe level on Wednesday, climbing above 300 micrograms per cubic metre in some parts of the city.

The Department of Health has been notified of 3,805 new Covid cases.

There are 582 people in hospital with the virus, which is up 26 since yesterday.

Of those in hospital with Covid, 106 are in ICU, down one.

Professor Luke O’Neill has suggested that restrictions may be needed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“Sadly, we are heading in the wrong direction,” Professor O’Neill told RTÉ News.

However, the professor of immunology at Trinity College Dublin said there is no need for another lockdown because ”that’s far too dramatic”.

Professor O’Neill said ”we may wind backwards” and put restrictions on night clubs and pubs if the numbers hit really high levels.

The immunologist called for twice weekly widespread antigen testing in all homes across the country.

”This could be another weapon used to control this virus and we should have done it sooner,” he said.

Professor O’Neill said it is crucial to get booster shots into over 60s before Christmas because ”there is going to be more mixing and socialising then”.

The CDC admits that any test over 28 cycles are not admissible for any positive reliable result. This alone invalidates over 90% of the alleged covid infections tracked by the use of this faulty test.

France is entering a fifth Covid wave despite strict vaccine mandates.

“Several neighboring countries are already in a fifth wave of the COVID epidemic, what we are experiencing in France clearly looks like the beginning of a fifth wave,” Veran said on TF1 television, adding the circulation of the virus was accelerating, Reuters reported.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said he will be tying the vaccine passports to Covid booster shots for people over 65 as cases rise across France.

“If you have been vaccinated more than six months ago, I encourage you to book an appointment now,” Macron said.
